Market vendor netted with fake gun

The Police in Mbarara have arrested a 35- year-old market vendor, a resident of Nyakitunda village in Isingiro district after he was intercepted with a fake gun that he was allegedly using to terrorize people.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi regional Police spokesperson, said the police intercepted Godfrey Byaruhanga together with his colleague from Nkokonjeru in Kamukuzi Mbarara City North, as they allegedly tried to rob a boda-boda, on Wednesday, but unfortunately, Byaruhanga's accomplice only identified as 'Dogo Black' also a market vendor, managed to escape. 
 
"This operation came after an outcry from residents of Boma cell, Kakyeka cell, Kamukuzi cell, and Nkokonjeru cell who were complaining about a group of armed robbers who were terrorizing them at night," Kasasira said, adding that Byaruhanga will be charged with aggravated robbery, pending investigations.

Meanwhile, the police in Mbarara have also arrested three people in connection with livestock theft. The suspects have been identified as Daniel Mukago, Geoffrey Mubangizi, and Benon Nuwahereza, an ex-convict from Nyamushekyera Prison, all residents of Mbarara.  

The police are also hunting down Alex Mwesigye, the fourth suspect who allegedly escaped.  
The police swung into action after Rodgers Kanamanya, 41, a resident of Nyarubanga cell in Mbarara city, alerting them about two heifers that had gone missing from his farm.

Police with the help of locals traced down the suspects whom they found driving off to Mbarara town in a White Toyota Wish Registration number UBF 859K, which car had allegedly been seen earlier at the farm. 

Before the arrest, the suspects led the police to a farm on Mbarara bypass where they had hidden the two heifers. 

"The suspects who will be charged with livestock theft are currently being detained at Mbarara central police station," says Kasasira.
