MAKINDYE - Passengers who were travelling in a taxi, registration number UBB  156K, escaped unharmed Wednesday evening when the vehicle they were travelling in rolled into a drainage channel at Katwe, near Kitara church.

According to eye witness, the taxi's driver was speeding away from the KCCA law enforcement team that were after him for allowing passengers to disembark at an ungazetted spot. During the escape, he lost control, forcing the taxi to roll into the drainage channel.

It has been revealed that in a move to enforce compliance with the new taxi operation procedures of KCCA, many taxis that operate out of ungazetted taxi parks are being hounded off the streets of Kampala by KCCA officials.

The ill-fated taxi operates out of a popular taxi park in Katwe commonly reffered to as ‘Park Eyomukibaati', from where makindye taxis pick passangers. This taxi park is allegedly not recognized by KCCA, thus the running battles.
