Pay attention to your car air cleaner

Usually when motorists take their cars for servicing, one of the car parts that are supposed to be checked is the air cleaner. However, sometimes it's forgotten.

This makes it a motorist's role to always check his car air cleaner and make sure it's clean.

Umar Kasujja  a mechanic in Nateete notes that an air cleaner is the car engine's defense.  It protects dirt and dust from entering the engine.

Kasujja says when an air cleaner gets too dirty to carry out its obligations, it should be cleaned to save the damage it could cause the engine.

He notes that cleaning of the air cleaner should be done after every 3000km and this is done whenever a motorist takes his car for service.

 When to replace it

Moses Kayiira a mechanic in Makindye explains that air cleaners should be replaced after every 40,000km. But the fact that Uganda has poor roads and unfriendly weather conditions, an air cleaners should be changed before it completely get damaged.

"Failure to blow your air cleaner or have it changed, the engine will be put at risk of getting damaged. And when this happens, a motorist will definitely have to consider doing an engine overhaul," he explains.
