Taxi driver arrested for attempted suicide

Police yesterday arrested Mutwahilu Bogere Wasswa, the chairman of Bweyogerere, Bukasa stage in old taxi park for attempted suicide.
It is alleged that the 24-year-old taxi driver went in front of City Hall, with a five liter jerrycan of petrol and match box with intention to set himself ablaze.
He was protesting against operation of public service vans without route charts on Burton Street in Kampala.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, confirmed the incident and they rushed to the scene, picked him up before he could set himself ablaze.
Mutwahilu is currently detained at Central Police Station in Kampala on attempted suicide offences.
"We urge members of the community not take their lives for matters that can be amicably handled by the concerned authorities", advised Onyango
He added that any attempt to commit suicide is an offence and he further urged taxi operators to register their vans with the Ministry of Works and Transport for free so that they are get route charts.
