Unfortunately, the neighbours did not respond fast enough to save the entire family, as a little girl, aged two was killed in the fire.

Residents of Namungoona, in Rubaga division woke up Saturday morning to cries for help after their neighbour's bedsitter was set ablaze.

The single room (muzigo) was allegedly lit up by one Ronald Mutumba, who, it turns out, has misunderstandings with the mother of his children, Annet Mirembe, and wanted to punish her.

The father of five reportedly left his wife after they developed misunderstanding, but continued to visit, to check on the children. It is during one of these visits on Friday night that Mutumba allegedly accused Mirembe of having affairs with other men, then went on to douse her in fuel before setting her ablaze.

"He now lives in Sembabule, but visits often. He checked my phone then accused me of having affair with men, saying one of my children was not his," Mirembe later narrated.

Unfortunately, the neighbours did not respond fast enough to save the entire family, as a little girl, aged two was killed in the fire.

Mirembe was rushed to the nearby International Medical Clinic, while Mutumba was taken to Namungoona Othordox Hospital, where he is receiving treatment before being taken into police custody.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that one person (the child) died before the fire could be put off.

The deceased has been identified as Victoria Nambooze and her body was conveyed to Mulago City mortuary.
