Denis Iguma set to join KCCA

Only an unveiling stands between Uganda Cranes defender Denis Iguma and wearing KCCA FC  yellow and blue.

Sources at the club reveal that Iguma who passed his medical at the club is said to have signed a two-year deal with the 13-time league champions.

"He finalised with the medical and we believe everything will go smoothly. We are preparing a team that will be able to compete on the continent and local scene," stated club board member Ali Kasirye Nganda while speaking on Bukedde FM on Tuesday evening.

The 26-year-old who can play both in defence and midfield arrives at a time when KCCA will be without its reliable defender John Revita for a chunk of the upcoming season due to a knee injury.

Revita who underwent knee surgery few weeks back at CoRSU Hospital along Entebbe Road will need a lot of time to recover and that may be the reason why KCCA is working quickly to fill the void.

KCCA who struggled at the back ever since their former captain Timothy Awany left the club to start his professional career with Israel's FC Ashdod, managed to concede 21 goals from 25 matches last season in the league.

Iguma will reunite with coach Mike Mutebi with whom he had a spectacular falling out during his spell at SC Villa in 2012 over tactics. He was then sold to defunct SC Victoria University who were playing in the second tier at the time.

In fact two parties are reported to have met and held discussions and Iguma is likely to take over from goalkeeper Charles Lukwago as the club's captain or become one of his deputies.

Iguma who has been out of action for some time ever since he picked up a knee injury in January last year during his spell with Bekaa Sports Club in Lebanon, is known for his intelligence on the pitch.

If the deal for Iguma is finalised, KCCA has a reason to smile although it's not known if he will be at his best after spending such a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

His vast experience will be vital for KCCA who have to compete on many fronts next season; CAF Confederation Cup, Uganda Premier League, Uganda Cup and the FUFA Super 8.

Iguma will join Ashraf Mugume, Charles Lwanga and Stefano Mazengo as the other new signings for KCCA young defenders at the club such as Samuel Kato, Peter Magambo and Musa Ramathan will have plenty to learn from him.

Bright Anukani (Proline), Brian Aheebwa (Mbarara City) and Pius Obuya (Maroons) are some of the other players thought to be on their way to Lugogo.

For Anukani, Proline wants to send him on loan yet KCCA want the player to join them permanently.

"Mujib (Kasule) does not want to release the player permanently since they have a feeling that he might perform well that's they wanted him to join on a season-long loan. In case he performs well while on loan that means both clubs can now negotiate about the player," added Nganda.
