Ludo: Federations urged to complete registration

ALF has pushed all the continental calendar activities to 2021 to give room for the pandemic to dissipate

The president of the Africa Ludo Federation (ALF) and also vice president of the World Ludo Federation (WLF), Hussein Kalule, has urged member countries in Africa to utilise the COVID-19 lockdown to clean house.

Kalule said while all countries are still suspending sports activities due to the COVID- 19 pandemic, administrative programs should continue.

This was at the continental meeting held online on June 19 which was coordinated at his Kampala office.

"We registered a good turn up of 25 member countries. But only six had arrived at the nominal requirements to be fully registered members of ALF," noted Kalule.

He earmarked the fundamental requirements of affiliation to the continental body that started being active only last year.

These include proof of affiliation to the national sports Council for each country, presenting the leadership code of an elected body running the sport in the country including the clubs and their leaders, the constitution and bylaws, together with paying the annual affiliation fees.

"We had earmarked this process to be concluded by March this year but everything got interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. I am only happy that the continental meeting has taken place, though online. We have extended to a deadline of October this year for each country to have finished these processes," said Kalule.

He also announced that ALF has pushed all the continental calendar activities to 2021 to give room for the pandemic to dissipate.

ALF had this year put in a calendar to hold its first continental events that include, the Africa Club Championship where the two finalists would qualify for the world championships and the Africa Individual Championships for both men and women.

ALF is also praying for a quick medical breakthrough that will open up the congregation to allow elections at the continental level.

"We have three major vacant posts to fill on the ALF board. But we don't want to do that process online," Kalule noted.

The elective posts to be filled at the ALF continental board include the secretary for finance, the vice president technical and the secretary for media according to Kalule.

The first term of the ALF board's four-year term started in January this year.

By the time of the meeting, countries that had fulfilled membership requirements include Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, South Africa and South Sudan according to Kalule.
