COVID-19: 43 positive truckers blocked from entering Uganda

As of Monday, Uganda has 206 active cases on admission, out of which 177 are Ugandans, 24 foreigners and five refugees.

KAMPALA - Uganda has Monday registered 14 news cases of COVID-19 bring the cumulative tally to 953. The 14 were confirmed from 3,103 samples tested on July 5.

Of the 14 cases, 11 are truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba border, South Sudan via Elegu border and Tanzania via Mutukula point of entry.

The remaining three are contacts and alerts from Luwero, Kyotera and Amuru districts.

Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director-General Health Services, said 43 foreign truckers who tested positive for the virus were blocked from entering into the country. These include 39 Kenyans and four Tanzanians.

As of Monday, Uganda has 206 active cases on admission, out of which 177 are Ugandans, 24 foreigners and five refugees.

"It is important to note that foreigners and refugees are admitted in our health facilities but are not captured in the cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases," Mwebesa said.

So far 892 cases, both Ugandans and non-Ugandans have recovered, and no related death has been recorded. The total samples tested so far is 210,446.
