COVID-19: Innovators win sh4m to fight injustice

Electronic Dispute Resolution Network (e-DRN) a group of innovators recently won about sh4.6m during a 48-hour competition organized by Kampala Legal Hackathon under The Hague Institute of Law (HiiL) at Mbuya zone 7.
Under a theme of ‘hacking COVID-19 related justice problems in Uganda', each group had to present ideas based on problems affecting people in Uganda during the pandemic.
All the seven groups came up with innovative solutions around domestic violence, child abuse among others.
However, e-DRN won the competition with a total of 89 points followed by Sauti Ya Toto who scored 88 points.
e-DRN consisted of four members that included Asmahaney Saad, Amos Mwin, Simon Busulwa and Bennert Alind.
The top three winners were awarded an opportunity to take part in the hackathon Justice Innovation Fast Track Program, a six-week intensive entrepreneurship training course for the most promising justice entrepreneurs in Uganda.
"We are excited and very personate about justice that is why we innovated around it.
"Our innovation provides a safe, trusted secure flow of handling commercial matters or any other dispute. Our vision is to see that every Ugandan has a good justice experience by going through a system that they understand, is cost-effective and flexible, Saad explained.
