Nabbingo Rotary Club inaugurated
Jun 30, 2020
The Rotary Club of Nabbingo was on Saturday (June 27) inaugurated at Nabbingo Palace Gardens, Wakiso District, with a call on all Rotarians to serve humanity with even greater commitment.
The call was made by the Governor of Rotary District 921, Francis Xavier Ssentamu, who presided over the scientific function.
Ssentamu said the global challenges posed by the Coronavirus pandemic made Rotary service even more relevant than ever owing to its disastrous impact on the world's poorest poor.
He encouraged the Rotarians to deepen their commitment to Rotary Service by making financial donations and professional donations to the organization.
Ssentamu said there were many invisible benefits, which the Rotarians stood to benefit if they continued to sacrifice their money and time in the service of the poor.
He asked the Rotarians to promote the Rotary objectives of fostering human friendship and connections and also, the observance of high ethical standards in business and professions.
"We need to support and elevate each other. We need to discuss and find out ways of serving humanity better. We need to recognize that everyone is important. Rotary work is a voluntary service. But we have that assured gratification, which we get when our work transforms society."
Ssentamu corrected what he called the "erroneous thinking" that Rotary was for rich people. He argued that people like Mother Theresa of Calcutta and Mahatma Gandhi, who are revered all over the world because of their inspirational humanitarian work, were not rich people but modest individuals who had an extraordinary passion for transforming society.
The Charter President of Nabbingo Rotary Club, Fredrick Edward Ssansa Mugenyi said he would give priority to building community toilets in the various parishes of Nabbingo.
He also promised to engage with the Uganda Police and the works ministry, to solve the problem of road accidents.
"Over 18 fatal accidents have happened on the Masaka-Kampala road stretch between Namagoma and Nakasozi, between October 2019 and January 2020. I shall ensure that the necessary road-safety measures are put in place to prevent the occurrence of more accidents. I shall also put emphasis on building community toilets. It is unthinkable that a fast-growing area like Nabbingo can be without public toilets."
The newly chartered Rotary Club of Nabbingo was sponsored by Kyengera Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Rubaga.
The charter members were trained by Rotarian Fred Musisi Kabuye, a past President of the Rotary Club of Kyengera.
The president of Rubaga Rotary Club, Betty Mwesigwa also graced the function.
