Uganda records more 23 COVID-19 cases

KAMPALA - The 23 new COVID-19 cases reported by the health ministry today have pushed the national tally 797 total confirmed cases.

The new cases according to a press release signed by Dr Henry Mwebesa, the Director Health Services, were from 2,219 samples tested on Monday.

The five were from 1,308 samples tested at points of entry while 18 were from 911 samples of alerts and contacts from the districts of Tororo, Amuru, Kyotera and Yumbe.

Additionally, 13 foreign truck drivers who included 8 Kenyans, 2 Tanzanians, 1 Eritrean, 1 Burundian and 1 Rwandan were returned to their respective country of origin. However, the good news according to the ministry, the country has so far registered 699 COVID-19 recoveries.

President Yoweri Museveni Monday said that as a result of the measures Uganda put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus, the country has managed "to blunt the invasion of the virus".

However, the President warned that Uganda has entered a "dangerous phase", illustrated by the emergence of new positive cases within the population, in the areas of Kyotera and Amuru.
