COVID-19 : Boda boda riders, passengers arrested

Police in Mbarara is holding 10 boda boda riders and 12 passengers over defying the presidential directive and Ministry of Health guidelines on the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.


In the operation which was conducted Monday in Mbarara, police impounded over 64 motorcycles in a way of cracking down the defiant boda boda riders who refused to follow the health guidelines.

Among the motorcycles impounded are those that belong to the riders who ran away to avoid being arrested.

According to Samson Kasasira, the police spokesperson for Rwizi region, the motorcycles impounded are parked at Mbarara Central Police Station.

He further confirmed that the suspects are also in police custody at Mbarara Central Police Station.

The suspects are charged with negligence that is likely to spread infection of disease according to Penal Code Act Section 171.
