KAMPALA - The number of COVID-19 cases in the country has shot to 774 after the Ministry of Health confirmed four new cases of COVID-19 from sample tests taken from 2,224 people.
According to the ministry's press release, two of the new cases were among the 1,600 samples tested from points of entry. One arrived from South Sudan via Elegu point of entry while the other one arrived from Kenya via Malaba point of entry.
"The other two are among the 624 samples of alerts and contacts to previously confirmed cases. One is from Amuru district and was under quarantine at the time of the test while the other one is from Kyotera district," the release read.
In addition, a total of 14 foreign truck drivers (9 Kenyan, 3 Tanzanians, one Burundian and one Rwandan) tested positive for COVID-19 and were handed over to their respective country of origin.
Presently, Uganda has 256 actives cases that are admitted in different locations. Among them are 143 nationals and 113 foreigners.
The release signed by Dr Henry G. Mwebesa clearly states that Uganda has registered a total of 631 COVID-19 recoveries. To date, the ministry hasn't recorded any COVID-19 related death.
