The menu for tourism after lift of lockdown

Jun 21, 2020

After the partial lifting of the lockdown, one wonders where he or they can go relax, sight see, and learn more.

With destinations close to the border still inaccessible, Lake Mburo National Park is the closest to Kampala City.

The menu of attractions comprise of a wealth of local history, inherited legends, mammals, reptiles and birds.

"The zebras and antelopes in Mburo are semi habituated," recounts a tour guide James Mwere.

"The wild animals no longer sprint for dear life as it were or still is in Kidepo Valley National Park.   It is the closest park in the country to a city."

This western Uganda-based attraction located not far from the Kampala/Mbarara highway can keep a tourist engaged for more than four days.

Small but adequately endowed with leopards, the park is home to the smallest antelope called oribi, impalas and zebras.

While there, the trip is considered incomplete if one leaves without sampling: eshabwe and millet bread served in an intricately woven basket.

The history of the Mbarara neighbourhood, having been adopted from a local name Mburara, is another story worth hearing.

Located 240km from Kampala City and 30km from Mbarara, Mburo is a recommended destination for family, friends and lovers.

But Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) cautions travellers to stick to the new rules while there.

"Tourists have to sanitise before entry," tips Simplicious Gessa, a communications officer at UWA . "This is followed by having their temperature read. Numbers in a group should not exceed five and cars load 50 percent of their load."

The boat rides are also limited to carry 50 percent of their capacity.
