Boda boda rider knocks police officer at checkpoint, two shot

Yesterday, Police’s Criminal Investigations Directorate officers launched a probe to establish the motive behind the attack, according to the enforcement agency spokesperson Fred Enanga.

CRIME   POLICE

A Police officer is nursing a broken leg after a group of boda boda riders raided a checkpoint allegedly targeting Police personnel in Sirionko district.

On Monday, Police's Criminal Investigations Directorate officers launched a probe to establish the motive behind the attack, according to the enforcement agency spokesperson Fred Enanga.

The incident happened along Nalugugu Village, in Sironko district.

Explaining the incident, Enanga said; Police constable No. 54532 Charles Asab, attached to Sironko Police Station was knocked by unidentified Boda Boda rider and broke his left leg."


He added that "The officer who was at the checkpoint together with two other colleagues was deliberately knocked when he attempted to stop a Boda Boda operator carrying a woman."

Violations

Enanga said a total of 238 persons were arrested in different parts of the country, 196 motor vehicles and 11 motorcycles were impounded.

Offences committed include; moving during curfew hours, illegal transportation of passengers, operation of passenger vehicles on a route not on their charts, operation of bar and drinking in bars among others.

"Some religious groups also continue to disregard the COVID-19 directive on social gathering as a measure to control the spread of Coronavirus," Enanga said.

Mukono 

Police and army arrested twenty-five (25) worshipers found conducting prayers at the home of Pastor Ambrose Tumwesigye, in Goma Zone, Misindye Ward, Mukono Municipality.

A total of nineteen (19) suspects were detained at Mukono Police Station while six (6) were set free after screening.

Kabale District

Police arrested Pastor Obed Ndyamuba who was part of fifty (50) members praying in the bush at Makanga Hill in Kabale Municipality.

Some of the suspects were identified as; Ruth Tushabe, Prudence Rosette, Naume Nahwera, Mercy Orishaba, Shilah Owomugisha, Grace Nisiima, Mary Rukundo, Innocent Bosco and Alex Shema. Other suspects fled on sighting Police.

Lake Albert

Police findings indicate that some members of the business community operating on Lake Albert continue to defy the Presidential directives on the transportation of passengers alongside goods.

Some of the identified members of the business community include; Chairman Local council I Kijangi landing site, Fred Bigirwa Fred, Julius Baguma, Aganze Binwa alias Aga who transport fish to the Democratic Republic of Congo and on return home with passengers.

Shootings

In Masanza, Mbale district a Police officer shot Denis Wataka,23, on the leg after the victim allegedly resisted arrest.

In Rubaga, Patrick Mbaine was shot and injured on the left thigh by Police personnel pursuing suspects.

The incident happened when Police Flying Squad pursued two suspects but in vain. Mbaine was hit by a stray bullet. After the incident, the victim reported the matter to Police, according to Enanga.

The victim is still nursing a bullet wound from Mulago hospital, where he was rushed for treatment.
