China aids Uganda in fight against locusts

Chinese ambassador Zheng Zhuqiang handed over the items to Uganda’s agriculture minister Vincent Ssempijja at the ministry stores in Wandegeya, Kampala.

China has donated medical items to help the Government in the fight against desert locusts which have constantly invaded the country.

The items include; 10 tonnes of Malathion EC, 500 backpack mist dusters, 500 hand-held ULV sprayers, 2,000 medical overalls, 2,000 medical protective masks and 2,000 pairs of gloves.

Zheng said Uganda is at a critical stage as they continue to battle desert locusts, COVID-19 and floods, which have posed an unprecedented threat to food security and livelihood across the country.

"China attaches great importance to agricultural co-operation with Uganda, which is the pillar and priority for Uganda's development," Zheng said.

He further said that they were working on a project that will enhance the agricultural development of Uganda.
