KAMPALA - Saturday night saw the grand finale of the weekly Clubs Beats At HomeOnline. After six weeks of entertaining partygoers in the comfort of their homes, the team at Club needed a household name in Africa's music industry to add oomph in the finale. Mafikizolo was right there to make this happen.
Unlike many show headliners, the South African duo were the opening acts of the show. Performing from South Africa on semi-live with prerecorded tracks, the duo opened with River, a slow-flowing song that evokes their vocal abilities. This was just to prepare fans online for energy that was yet to hit.
When it comes to dancing, Mafikizolo music is always inviting. Ndihamba Nawe, as one would expect, brewed dancing, excitement among fans online. The excitement would erupt shortly when the duo performed Udakwa Njalo.
The local acts that would shortly follow were undoubtedly given a run for their money. Kenneth Mugabi took the challenge first. Coming in with Ebinyuma off his Ugandan album, Mugabi maintained the energy. The buzz online showed that he was welcomed in almost equal measures as Mafikizolo. Naki, arguably his biggest song, made him win even more fans watching online.
Navio's Hip-Hop prowess changed the direction of the party a little bit, but one thing is for sure, the energy was kept high. Pallaso did the same, too. However, the connection streaming started buffering and freezing as Navio and Pallaso performed, arousing anger from some fans.
The surprise acts of the night were Lydia Jazmine, Lillian Mbabazi and Irene Ntale on the same stage. With Ntale on the guitar, fans were left to enjoy the undisputed vocals of Jazmine and Mbabazi. The three alternated performances of each other's song, kicking off with Jazmine's Nkubanja.
One other thing worth lauding from the show, at least for the last three editions, is the production by Fenon Events. The sound, stage and lighting have been executed quite well, feeding fans with filtered performances. Cindy wrapped up the two hours show with more energy.
