JIMMY KIRUNDA: 1950 - 2020

Legendary former Uganda Cranes captain Jimmy Kirunda was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Mayire, Bulesa - Kyadondo on Wednesday. He died Monday at the age of 70.

The football fraternity and Uganda at large was shocked by the news of the former Uganda Cranes skipper, which occured on Monday around midday in Bwaise, Kampala. On the day of his burial two days later, all roads led to his ancestral home in Mayire for his send-off.

 
There was security presence at the home.

 

Kirunda's children, all wearing face masks as per the coronavirus guidelines, laid a wreath on their father's casket.

The widow, Robinah Kirunda, also placed a wreath on her husband's coffin.

 

Kirunda's death will leave a huge dent in his family, having been described as a unifying factor for the family and the community at large.

 

Rev. William Zziwa led the prayers.

 

Kirunda's casket was wheeled to the burial site after the prayers. The interment took place before the earlier scheduled 2pm.
