Museveni launches face mask factory

Five companies have been certified by UNBS to produce masks that are for both local and export use.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday launched a certified surgical mask factory in Mukono, which deals in face masks.

LIDA Packaging Products Ltd, a company manufacturing face masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has a production capacity of 560,000 masks per day and is currently employing 315 Ugandan youth with more expected.

"We have the capacity to produce many things here because we have the raw materials," Museveni said.

The President also noted that money has been injected in Uganda Development Bank to support manufacturers with low-interest loans, to enhance production.

LIDA is Uganda's first National Drug Authority (NDA) and UNBS' certified surgical mask factory.

So far, five companies have been certified by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), to produce masks that are for both local and export use.
