“Those who are in the protected zones leave if you don’t, water will claim you if the water does not claim you, we are going to make sure that you leave,” Okidi said.

The ministry of water and environment is set to evict over 174,000 encroachers from lakeshores and wetlands.

Alfred Okidi, the permanent secretary in the ministry says the encroachers have received several reminders to demolish their structures but have refused. Therefore, the ministry shall demolish them at their cost to save the lakes and wetlands.

"Those who are in the protected zones leave if you don't, water will claim you if the water does not claim you, we are going to make sure that you leave," Okidi said.

He added that they are working with utility providers and a number of encroachers have been disconnected from the grid of electricity and water. "This is putting additional pressure on them to leave the places where they have illegally settled," he said
