Uganda registers 14 more COVID-19 cases from community

May 25, 2020

“All new cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers. All contacts were under quarantine at the time of test,” the Ministry of Health said.

At least 14 more cases of COVID-19 were registered from the community on Sunday, bringing the confirmed figure to 212.

Having delayed the results on Sunday night, the Ministry of Health tweeted on Monday morning: "Results from samples tested on May 24, 2020 confirm 14 new COVID-19 cases."

The ministry added: "All new cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers. All contacts were under quarantine at the time of test."

Unlike the previous tests which almost included truck drivers that had already entered the country, the Sunday tests did not register any positive case of cargo transporters.

This is because drivers who tested positive were not allowed to enter the country.

"Five positive foreign truck drivers (all Tanzanians) were handed over to their country of origin. Samples from points of entry tested today: 655 samples from community and contacts: 1,084. Total samples tested today: 1,739," the ministry said.
