KAMPALA- Ahead of the Idd el-Fitr celebrations scheduled for Sunday, the joint security task force has issued guidelines to ensure the safety of the population amidst the threat posed by coronavirus.

"We shall celebrate this Idd scientifically as we have been celebrating other religious events and other functions that require congregations during this lockdown," the Prisons Spokesperson, Frank Baine remarked while addressing journalists on behalf of the task force at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

Baine added; "There will be no congregations, the celebrations will be conducted in our homes as we have always been advised by the President."

Uganda Muslim Supreme Council has confirmed that Idd el-Fitr festival which is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims will be celebrated Sunday. 

Relatedly, President Yoweri Museveni has congratulated and wished the Muslim community a joyous and blessed Idd el-fitr to Muslims.

Museveni assured the Muslim fraternity, that the intercessory prayers that they offered for the nation during the Sacred and Holy month of Ramadhan, will make it stand through the difficult times of the coronavirus pandemic.
