Kasese floods death toll shoots up

The Red Cross Society of Uganda has confirmed the deceased.

KASESEThe number of Ugandans who have so far been confirmed dead in the new wave of floods to hit Kasese district has risen to eight (8).  The floods were as a result of River Lhubiriha, which marks the Uganda-DR Congo border along Kitholhu sub-county, in Bukonzo West Constituency, bursting its banks following overnight torrential rains in Mt Rwenzori.

The Red Cross Society of Uganda has confirmed the deceased as Kubugho Bwangirini, an 80-year-old woman, Masika Agnes, 23, Kabugho Felistus, 17, and Masika Rorontina, 45. Others are males namely Yubu Mutsombo, 55, Mbusa Kayakers, 16, Lothorach Lokwang, a UPDF soldier attached to Mountain Battalion Bwera and Bwambale Kilema, 81, from Mpondwe.

The charity body also named one Monday Fanahasi Kabaliko, 35, as being admitted at Kanyatsi Health centre.

Earlier reports had placed the number of dead at five (5). It had also been reported that at least five other individuals had perished in the same floods.
