COVID-19: 21 truck drivers handed over

All the 21 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday were handed over to their country of origin.

KAMPALA - Following a presidential directive of deducting all foreign truck drivers from Uganda's case count, all the 21 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday were handed over to their country of origin. 

Yesterday (Thursday), the Ministry of Health confirmed 15 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda. Of the 15 cases, 10 were truck drivers who arrived via Elegu while 5 cases are among community samples. This brings the number of confirmed cases to 160.

According to the ministry, all the community cases were under quarantine at the time of the test.

"Since the presidential directive, the total number of foreign truck drivers handed over to their country of origin is 145," the ministry said.

"Samples of truck drivers tested on Thursday were 2,101 while the community samples tested were 628. This brings the total numbers of samples tested to 2,729," the ministry said.

To date, the number of COVID-19 recoveries stands at 66.
