KAMPALA - The social media has been awash with false information that another Ugandan doctor has died of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.
From Friday, a video showing a vehicle carrying a coffin in a procession as people stood on the roadside waving and clapping has been making rounds with people saying it's a body of a Ugandan Doctor.
However, the New Vision has confirmed that the procession was for Momodu Tony Kabia, a Western African man who died of COVID-19 on April 23 in the UK.
Kabia 58, worked as Royal Infirmary security guard in Manchester City and the procession was travelling to the cemetery.
According to a Ugandan living in the UK, Kabia was married to a Ugandan - Sarah Margaret Naziwa, who works as a nursing assistant.
"The gentleman was very popular in the Ugandan community because he was married to a Ugandan member of Manchester Ugandan Community Sarah Naziwa," said a source who knew Kabia.
"Kabia attended most Ugandan socials and contributed generously," he adds.
Kobia was originally from Sierra Leone and worked in a Manchester hospital in the security department.
He was not a doctor but was so popular there that he was nominated for an award which was to be given in the summer.
The Ugandan community played a central role in organizing the funeral service mobilized by Kabaka's Representative in Manchester Omukungu Enock Mayanja Kiyaga.
