Byekwaso plans to marry his German girlfriend

Five-time Mr. Uganda Bodybuildng champion Ivan Byekwaso plans to walk his German girlfriend, Victoria Bechtold, down the aisle next year.

The 37-year-old muscle man relocated to Germany four years ago after competing for Uganda in the the 2016 INBA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

In 2018, he was rumoured dead while in prison after his then estranged girlfriend framed him for rape for which he was imprisoned.

But after spending a few months behind bars, Byekwaso was set free after it was established that the rape allegations against him were not true, which prompted the police to instead lock up his then-girlfriend.

After overcoming that episode, Byekwaso, who had competed in some local events in Germany, settled down and got a permanent job as a fitness instructor at the Fit Star Fitness Studio in Munich.

Byekwaso enjoyed bodybuilding success in and out of Uganda

He then met his current girlfriend with whom they are set to tie the knot.

He was also preparing for more local and international events - but the coronavirus pandemic struck.

"I was training hard for this year's action, before COVID-19 disrupted my training preparations. I now miss the stage since I have everything I need to compete here," he said.

"I look forward to competing at the INBA/PNBA World championships in Romania first if the lockdown is eased."

Byekwaso rose to even more fame when he won the INBA World Cup and Natural Universe crowns in 2015 in the US. But the victory came with only bragging rights that left him yearning for opportunities that would also bring some food to the table, thereby ending up in Germany, where he has now settled with duo citizenship.

He is expecting his first child with any time before the end of this year.
