Four Tanzanian truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 have been transferred to Arua Regional Referral Hospital for betterment management. The drivers were intercepted by security at Pakwach on their way to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

They were part of the 11 trucks drivers whose result turned positive after tests done by the health ministry on Thursday.

A team of health officials from Arua rushed to Packwach immediately they were notified about the interception.

"Our security forces intercepted them after information came in that they were positive. They have been taken to Arua," a man only identified as Omito said.

According to Omito, seven of the residents who came into contact with them, have also been rounded and are being quarantined at Pakwach UCC.

The truck drivers were not allowed out of their trucks. Security personnel locked them in their trucks until a team of health professionals from Arua arrived to pick them.

"We couldn't allow them to step on our soil, in fact, those who interacted with them have also been rounded and quarantined," he said.

Omito said the district Task Force has spared Packwach health centre IV as isolation center.

However, he notes that the facility and health personnel are ill-equipped to manage Covid-19.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country stands at 75 as of Friday.
