COVID-19

The health ministry has announced that 11 foreign truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 late Thursday.

In a statement which also appealed to the general public to remain calm, the ministry said six drivers were Tanzanians while the rest were Kenyans.

The six cases entered through the Mutukula border post, coming from Tanzania where President John Pombe Magufuli has refused to announce a lockdown.

Tanzania has so far registered 10 deaths related to COVID-19, with 284 confirmed cases.
Uganda is yet to record any single death.

HIGH FIGURE

This is the second time since the outbreak that Uganda is recording such a high number in a single day.

The first time Uganda recorded 11 positive cases was on March 31, where all samples had been drawn from isolation centres.

"A total of 1,331 samples were tested today at the Uganda Virus Research Institute. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases now is 74," the ministry said in a statement.

"None of the cases registered today had signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19," the ministry added.
