Local bodybuilders are worried that they can no longer support themselves during this difficult coronavirus lockdown period.

When contacted, bodybuilder Yakoub bin Hassan told New Vision talked of how the pandemic has affected them.

"Professionally, doctors recommend bodybuilders to eat six times a day to keep their bodies in shape. But in this period, that may not be possible," he said.

"I don't have the funds to buy the food stuffs to support my body. I'm also limited in the training sessions that I do."

When asked why the bodybuilding association does not come in to help them, Hassan said it does not have funds.

"The federation has no funds since we have approached them on so many occasions but they can't help us.

"If they can't give more than sh500,000 as prize money for the overall winner of competitions like Mr Kampala it shows that they have limited funds," he added.

Mr. Uganda and Mr. Kampala Bodybuilding Championships are some of the competitions that were scheduled for this year but it is now uncertain they will go on as planned.

On the flip side though, the lockdown has been a blessing in disguise for Hassan - he is spending more time for his family.

"Before this lockdown, I would come back home late due to the nature of the jobs we bodybuilders do. I had taken long without having time with my children," he said.

"But now I spend most of the time with them."
