Teenager remanded for stealing money from Mosque

KAMPALA - Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Joan Ketty Acca has charged and remanded a 19-year-old man to Kitalya Min Prison for allegedly stealing sh70,000 from a Mosque.

Umar Mwesigwa, a resident of Nabbingo in Wakiso district was on Friday charged with one count of theft. He denied the charges.

The offence contravenes section 254 (1) and 261 of the Penal Code Act and attracts a maximum sentence of ten years imprisonment upon conviction.

Prosecution led by Edwin Amanya informed the court to slate the matter for hearing because inquiries were complete.

"Your worship, investigations in the matter are complete and we pray that a hearing date is set," Amanya said.

Immediately after the state submission, the accused entreated court to grant him bail, but the Magistrate declined to grant him bail because he had no witnesses.

"This court cannot grant you bail without sureties, so your bail application will be heard on the next adjournment when you avail substantial sureties," Acca said as she adjourned the case to May 8, 2020.

The charge
Prosecution alleges that on April 14, 2020, at Pine Motor Bond in Kampala district, the accused stole sh70, 000, the property of Pine Mosque Community.
