KAMPALA - The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) to issue stringent measures against the people cultivating on the river and lake banks in the country.

This is after President Yoweri Museveni warned people who dig on river and lake banks. He passed the warning on Sunday during his national address on the state of the country in this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Museveni urged the public to desist from destroying the physical features that are beneficial to the country.

"NEMA is coming for you because you have become a huge problem for the lakes and rivers. The floating island that caused a countrywide blackout had Cassava and yams on it.

I congratulate our Engineers from the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Transport and Works, and The UPDF who played a key role in stopping the island from causing more havoc," Museveni said.
