HEALTH  WEDDING

MBARARA- Wilson Turyashemererwa and Mercy Kamusiime exchanged their vows in a nearly empty church on Saturday. The wedding was only attended by essential people who included the bride and groom, best man, matron, the brother of the bride and two church leaders.

The wedding is a true definition of a science wedding that was described by President Yoweri Museveni during his first address to the nation about COVID-19.

It should be recalled that Museveni banned big congregations, including weddings in a bid to fight COVID-19.

Museveni advised that whoever wanted to conduct a wedding, they should do a scientific one that involves less than 10 people.

On Saturday, Mbarara residents were stunned upon setting their eyes on a wedding entourage of two cars heading to All Saints Church. The cars did not have any decorations.

Apart from having the bride and groom, this kind of wedding was quite unique in the eyes of many people.

Before the couple was ushered into the church, they were asked to wash their hands with soap, a current norm to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The church that houses hundreds of people, had in it only seven people.

The wedding was presided over by the Rev. Bobs Mwesigwa the Archdeacon of Mbarara archdeaconry. While in church, a four-metre distance was maintained.

Amidst joy, Mwesigwa asked the couple to exchange their vows. The whole service lasted only 30 minutes.

The couple later took their guests to a luncheon at their home in Kakigani village in Rwampara district.

Turyashemererwa the groom is the head of security at the faculty of law in Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara municipality. The couple had been dating for a two year before they tied the knot.

Kamusiime was overjoyed and thankful that the day had ended well despite the country being in lockdown.

"I have always yearned for this and in my heart am very happy because God has made it, " Kamusiime expressed.

Turyashemererwa revealed that they only spent 300,000 on the wedding.

"Am excited that the wedding has come to pass. Before Museveni suspended the weddings, we had already set the date and there is no way we were going to change it, our parents, relatives and friends embraced our decision to move on and we agreed with the church not to postpone," Turyashemererwa said.

Mwesigwa said people should stop thinking that weddings are about making fancy parties. "I think that is wrong. Marriage is between two people a man and a woman."

He advised that weddings are not about having big entourages and inviting many people. "To avoid unnecessary expenditures, you should live within your means," he said.
