Kasigire replaces Kawonawo as Entebbe DPC

The Police explained that this was a normal transfer where the placement committee looked at a number of parameters

On October 14, 2018, Police officers attached to Entebbe Police Station organised a party to welcome Baker Kawonawo, the new Division Police Commander (DPC). The party held at K-Hotels in Entebbe on a Sunday evening also served as a farewell for the outgoing DPC Samuel Mission.

It has always been the norm to organise farewell parties for outgoing senior serving officers at the station, but that was not the case on Monday when Kawonawo was being replaced by Michael Kasigire in changes made by the Inspector General of Police. Kasigire was until recently the DPC for Kira Road Police Station.

"There was a placement gap because the commander who was in Entebbe, is undergoing administrative action," noted Police spokesperson Fred Enanga in a telephone interview.

Enanga explained that this was a normal transfer where the placement committee looked at a number of parameters and found Kasigire with "far and beyond experience, among other requirements needed in the Entebbe area."

"Of course, he had also spent a while in Kira and therefore, it was important for him (Kasigire) to change the environment," Enanga added.

On March 23, Kawonawo was detained in Kampala on allegations of violating presidential directives about containing the Coronavirus when he reportedly failed to close flea markets.

He was released on March 25 but did not return to his office until his replacement on Monday.
