MTN offers free mobile money services

The move to offer free mobile money services is also in line with the Government’s plan of reducing physical interaction with banknotes that could spread the disease.

As Uganda battles the deadly coronavirus, MTN, a mobile telecommunication company operating in the country, has offered free mobile money services for 30 days.

The service applies to only MTN-to-MTN transactions.

According to a statement released recently, the offer is in addition to the 1GB data offer at sh2,000 every day.

The company is also supporting the government's sensitization drive by availing sh500m in cash and free channel space to promote the Ministry of Health sensitization programs.

The move to offer free mobile money services is also in line with the Government's plan of reducing physical interaction with banknotes that could spread the disease.

According to the company's chief executive officer, Wim Vanhelleputte, MTN is committed to working with the government to reduce the impact and disruption the pandemic is having on the lives of Ugandans. He says working closely with the health ministry, the company has committed its media assets for public awareness.
