COVID-19 ARREST TEACHERS

The Police say they are holding 20 pupils and teachers of Kabojja Junior School - Kitante branch for breaking the presidential directive on the closure of schools.

Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest saying the group was in their custody.

"We have them with us and we are going to find out why they are going against the presidential directive to close schools," Onyango told New Vision in a phone interview on Monday.

President Yoweri Museveni ordered last week that all institutions of learning be closed and learners sent home in a bid to protect the country against coronavirus (COVID-19).

On Sunday the country announced the first positive case of the virus.

On the same day, Museveni again addressed the nation and insisted that pupils and students who sent home should not loiter around trading centres but rather stay at home.
