City youth criminal gang busted

KAMPALA - A notorious youth criminal gang that has been terrorizing Kampala city centre and its suburbs has been busted by police in Kabalagala.

The intelligence information obtained by police in Kabalagala indicated that the group has been waylaying people at night along Bunga-Ggaba road and rob them clean of their belongings.

The group uses a number of deadly weapons including sharp pangas, iron bars, among others.   

The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, told New Vision that upon getting the information, they mounted an operation and managed to arrest one of the group members, who later led them to his colleague's homes. 

"During the operation which was conducted on Monday morning, we recovered a number of suspected stolen items which included; 25 mobile Phones, Pangas, toy guns, women handbags, a motorcycle and many others," said Owoyesigyire.

 

 
Owoyesigirye narrated how the gang robs its victims. "After they have robbed road users of their valuables, they run and hide in the bush. They rob during late evening and in the wee hours.  

He also revealed that a total of 10 suspects were arrested and among them two, are women, and they are currently detained at Kabalagala Police Station. 

"The suspects shall be charged with aggravated robbery, assault and theft, adding that their file has been forwarded to the resident StateAttorney for perusal," he said.

Meanwhile, Police at Jinja road also conducted an operation and arrested another deadly group of suspected criminals who have been terrorizing the people in the areas of Ntinda, Naguru, Kamwokya and other nearby places.

During the operation, Police arrested 37, members of the group including one Paul Kisoro,19, a resident of Kamwokya, a Kampala city suburb, located in Nakawa Division.

According to Police, Kisoro had been seen brandishing a gun in one of his robberies. 

They subjected him for a search which helped them recover a Toy Pistol, Long torch, a decoder device, and four suspected stolen mattresses.
