Coronavirus: Africa Volleyball Club tourney called off

Three Ugandan sides were due for the championship including KCB Nkumba University(women), UCU and Nemostars (men).

The Volleyball Africa Club Championships for both men and women has been cancelled due to the current Coronavirus threat that has seen quite a number of sporting activities cancelled worldwide.

Hosts Al Ahly sports club in consultation with the Egyptian Volleyball Federation and Confederation Africaine de Volleyball CAVB have decided to push the event to the future until the current situation is worked out.

"Due to the ongoing global coronavirus outbreak, CAVB, Egypt Volleyball Federation and Al Ahly Sporting Club, the organiser of both the women and men 2020 African Volleyball Club Championship, have jointly agreed to postpone both events which were scheduled to be played in Cairo, Egypt from 31 March to 11 April 2020 - Women's and from 12 to 23 April 2020 - Men's, respectively," said.

Three Ugandan sides were due for the championship including KCB Nkumba University(women), UCU and Nemostars (men).

"It's unfortunate because we had gotten the team to a good level which is hard to maintain for the unforeseen future. But it is what it is and the postponement is best for all of us health wise. Now we will shift our focus to the local scene," Nkumba coach Tony Lankony said.

The other teams like Nemostars have also called off the daily training sessions the have been conducting during this period as the wait on what next for the the future.

FIVB has also promised to monitor the events that are coming up in the next few months and if there is a need for cancellation they will do that.
