Women told to stand up for their rights

Andabati said Women’s Day is a day when every woman should be celebrated and reminded that they are special and cared about.

Women have been challenged to fight for their rights if they are to be recognized as responsible citizens.

Speaking during the International Women's Day celebrations at Bethany Women's and Family Hospital at Luzira, Damalie Andabati, one of the hospital directors, said women are responsible for carrying pregnancies for nine months and thereafter, raise children.

And for that reason, they should not sit back, but rather stand up for their rights.
She said women emancipation, "is here to help women rise up and develop themselves in all areas and help other women who are still lagging behind to rise up so we can achieve collective development".

"This will only be achieved if we stand up for our rights, care about our health, focus on economic development and education of a woman to help women come to the top," she said.

Why celebrate Women's Day

Andabati said Women's Day is a day when every woman should be celebrated and reminded that they are special and cared about.

Livingstone Wasswa, the head marketing and administration at the hospital, said many times women are busy taking care of their families and no one comes out to celebrate them.
