Kabaka Birthday Run kit out, to cost 15,000

The Chairman Organising Committee David Mpanga said there will be a health camp and health talks before the Kabaka’s Birthday that will be celebrated on April 15.

KABAKA BIRTHDAY RUN

This year's Airtel Kabaka Birthday Run targets to collect sh900m from the projected 60,000 runners that will participate in the annual charity event, due on April 5 at Lubiri-Mengo.

Speaking to the press and sponsors during the launch of this year's kit that will cost sh15,000/- each, at Bulange yesterday, Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga urged the public to ensure they buy the kit early as they support the fight against HIV/Aids.

For the next three years, the run will be held under the theme; ‘Men against AIDS to save the girl child'.

"Our vision is to re-position the kingdom at its rightful place, at the summit of social and economic development with people enjoying their rights and freedoms; but we cannot achieve that unless we are in good health," Mayiga noted.

He said the Kabaka wants an AIDS-free country before he thanked the partners of the run for supporting the causes which the Kabaka wants worked upon and for making the kingdom stronger which in turn also strengthens their businesses.

Airtel Uganda Managing Director V.G. Somasekhar called on the public to ensure they all turn up at Lubiri, saying the run had grown because of the good causes attached to the run.

"I want to assure the people of Buganda that our relationship with the kingdom is cemented and will stay for good. We are here to show commitment to the run and also show that we can all contribute and make society a better place," Somasekhar said.

Managing Director DFCU Bank Mathias Katamba also underlined the need to have a healthy nation in order to transform them economically free of disease.

A number of companies including URA, St. Catherine Hospital, Posta Uganda, KPMG, Hotel Africana among others were on hand to receive their kit from the Katikkiro having already subscribed to the event.

Kit for the run can be bought at Vision Group offices, Majestic Brands office at Bulange, DFCU Bank branches at Kireka, Mukono, Aponye Mall, Entebbe, and Market Street and at Airtel Shops on Kampala Road, Kisekka Market, New Park, and Shoprite-Kibuye on top of different

The annual run is one of the activities organized as part of the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II birthday activities that has over the years been celebrated with particular corporate social responsibility causes attached. Previous runs have supported the fight against fistula and sickle cell anemia.

The function was also attended by the First Deputy Katikkiro Twaha Kawaase Kigongo, Buganda Sports Minister Henry Ssekabembe, and a number of dignitaries from the Buganda Kingdom and the different sponsors.
