The solution also has in mind Ugandans at home who may find it hard to get home in time to watch or listen to their favourite shows.

Although the Ugandan diaspora travels far and wide in search of better economic prospects, their hearts and minds are often at home. MTN Uganda has partnered with a local firm- Al Bayan to stream local radio and television on an application called Yo Tv to keep the diaspora up to step with local developments.

The solution also has in mind Ugandans at home who may find it hard to get home in time to watch or listen to their favourite shows. Alongside the app, MTN Uganda also unveiled a first of its kind TV streaming data plan dubbed the YOTVChannels MTN Bundle.

Aggrey Mugisha, the Al Bayan CEO said the partnership is aimed at improving the consumption of local content through allowing Ugandans to enjoy uninterrupted local TV and Radio at their convenience.

"As a purely Ugandan brand, we recognise the importance of Buy Uganda, Build Uganda. As such, we relish every opportunity that further builds our country," Mugisha said. "We knew that this kind of solution would require a lot of data so we are grateful to MTN for providing free data for the first 30 days after subscribing to the app."

He made the comments at Nyonyi gardens during a ceremony to showcase the new application. Mugisha said the application took three years to make and that it replaces the need for a television set, radio, decoder or remote control.

Sen Somdev the MTN Uganda acting Chief Marketing Officer said that one of the main aims of the application is the convenience it brings. "With the advent of smart phones, more people are now accessing information with just a click of a button anywhere anytime," he said.

"Sometimes people find themselves caught up with work commitments, leaving them with little time to catch up with their favourite shows. MTN is therefore pleased to partner with YOTV to bring yet more convenience," he added.
