People will always scrutinise what new hairstyles you choose. So for the New Year 2020,  here are hairstyles you may as well consider that will be worthwhile.

Feed-in Braids (crochet braids)
Feed-in Braids are all the rage this year! According to Joan Mack, the managing director of Posh Junction Salon at Spear House, Kampala.

Time constraints have made the crochet braids appealing for most ladies. Crochet braids are appropriate in any workplace," she says.

A personal favourite of Joan Mack is the Havana twist braids with neatly controlled edges! Unique is an understatement! It should work at most workplaces, she says.

Normal Braiding is another great way anyone woman can always style their hair.

"It is long-lasting and you can keep the braids for several months without even having to be bothered about styling. You can hold it in a simple puff," Hairstylist Noelina Nabukenya at Pristine Salon found at kingdom Kampala explains.

You can plait them in threes or twist. It can be long or short, small, medium or big braids depending on what you fancy.

In addition are spring braids: We use straws to design them. They are long-lasting and easy to maintain. All you do is wash and oil it.

A great hairstyle can make one feel extremely confident

When going for braids, there is a whole world of colours. The braids are found in black, coffee brown, purple, red, pink, green, gold you name it.  If you want to look more glamorous, you can choose to style your braid whenever you feel like it and look extremely good. Nabukenya says to maintain the braids takes washing and repair, and that's it.

Feed-in Locks (crochet locks)
"You can get crochet locks done in a third of the time, and no one would notice the difference! Just be sure your workplace is okay with a roughish look. But it can also be styled into a corporate look," Joan Mack advises.

Locks (dreadlocks); is normal hair that gets twisted to form rope-like strands. Though one can use feed-in locks, your normal hair is also perfect for making locks.

Edith Tumusiime, the manager Pristine Salon explains that there are many ways of styling locks and it is down to creativity.

When styled up right and individually set apart by colour and length, it is stunning. "Locks are long-lasting, you can have it for as long as you want," she says.

To maintain them, one has to wash and repair. This is when the hairy gets itchy, or when you feel tired and not comfortable with the locks anymore.

 The weave-on hairstyle

Hairstylist Ponny Nsubuga says some people will prefer not to wash and repair the locks at all. Others wash and repair them whenever they feel like it.

"You can repair locks on the first wash and just keep washing going forward," Nsubuga says of how to maintain locks and look beautiful in 2020.

Weave -on (Extensions)
The weave-on hairstyles have continuously looked amazing. "Everest weaves are right now most asked for. They are not human in texture. But there is also the human plait, Angelina, soft weave among others," Nabukenya explains.

Going for the weave-on this year, you can also experiment with flamboyant colors, curls, straight, locks or short strands. There are also crochet weaves.
The weave-on protects your natural hair from the harsh effects of continued styling. Weave-on hairstyles do require little maintenance.

"It gives you the freedom to change your look whenever you like. All you have to do is come for washing, brushing and ironing depending on weather the weave is synthetic or human hair," Hairstylist Noelina Nabukenya explains.

Corn-rows
This is a timeless hairstyle that can be done with your own hair or with hair extensions. It can be done in different styles you want, including the popular pencil. But corn-rows are normally for the short term. In a month at most one gets to remove them, Nabukenya explains. They are suitable for strengthening hair too before retouch for those with treated hair. You plait the corn-rows, strengthen hair then retouch.

Joan Mack says first impressions are lasting impressions, and this goes for hair too.

Going natural
This remains the trendiest option for most women. Hair freedom and hair loss following a chemical reaction to relaxers remain the biggest influencers for this choice. Uganda is richly blessed with so many fruits, oils and vegetables recommended for natural hair care. It's an awesome experience.

However, for those craving for a glam look, recommended is a slight touch of makeup to go with the short hair look. Also, some workplace setups might not find the sponged-hairdo appropriate so be sure to get your look to fit in your workplace.
Bob-hairstyles

Bob-hairstyles whether with your own hair or braids are back in style, according to Joan Mack's. The high temperatures make this an appealing option. Ladies will turn heads over the weekend while remaining corporate smart! No regrets here!

Sponge dreads
This is also loved by ladies, according to Kevin Bikanga a Barber at Pristine salon. The hair is cut short and a sponge is used to give the hair a shaggy crazy look.

When it comes to hairstyles and trends, none compares to the African hairstyles; there are always flashy trends coming in and out, and the African women and girls are embracing these styles.

Whenever someone sees a beautiful hairstyle whether it is a photograph or being worn by another person, they will want it, Margaret Kyambadde Director Team Fashion wear says. She runs a beauty salon at Univeral house, Luwum Street in Kampala.

So what is out in 2020?
That has got to be the tongs (adding curls to long or short hair to feel more stylish) and gel (well-known for keeping all hairstyles in place for hours, or even the whole day) Kyambadde reveals.

For Tumusiime, it has to be the small braided twists. But she is quick to remind us that what could be out of fashion may still beloved by some individuals. "Style depends on an individual," she says.

The one caution Joan Mack would have is on hair colouring.  "Be sure the choice of hair colour fits into your workplace atmosphere," she says.
