Over 200 to grace Liberation Day Chess

The 34th Liberation Day Chess Tournament, which is slated for this Saturday 25th January 2020 is expected to attract over 200 participants from across the globe
According to the Christine Namaganda the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dove Chess Academy, the one day event will play a fundamental role in educating the younger generation about the history behind the liberation day.
‘'We want to create awareness to the young generation because many of them do not know about the liberation day and have no idea why they call it that. So we want to recognize the people who made this day possible,'' Namaganda said
The tournament is also open to all contestants from any country. Organized under the theme "To develop leadership capacity through the game of Chess", the tournament hosted by Dove Chess Academy (DCA) will be held at Nobview Hotel in Ntinda.
It will be played in six categories including Under 6, 8,10,12,16 and 21. The tournament will also be played basing on the Swiss System of six rounds with 25 minutes per player to finish. Any others that desire to be a part of this competition are required to register at a fee of shs20,000 before the deadline on the 24th January 2020.
The best players in each category will walk home with prizes of up to shs100, 000 shillings including trophies and medals. Each player will also be awarded with a certificate of participation.
The Liberation day is celebrated annually on the 26th of January to commemorate the day the National Resistance Army ousted Dr. Milton Obote's regime in 1986.
