UPC would be in attendance because they have developed a good relationship with other political parties, NRM inclusive

Uganda People's Congress (UPC) has confirmed that a party representative will attend the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) delegates' conference which is due in a few days' time.

"As colleagues in IPOD, such an invitation is welcome and the top leadership will sit to see who shall represent the party in the delegate's conference," Faizo Muzeyi, the party's head of Media and Communication said on Wednesday during a press conference at their head office Uganda house.

Muzeyi cited out that UPC would be in attendance because they have developed a good relationship with other political parties, NRM inclusive through the Inter-Party Organization for Dialogue (IPOD).

The ruling party, NRM is due to have their National Delegate's Conference on Saturday at Mandela National Stadium.

Some of the invited guests include all the opposition political parties who are part of IPOD such as Forum for Democratic Change, the Democratic Party and Uganda People's Congress.

Other invited guests will be political party representatives from South Sudan, China, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Namibia, and Equatorial Guinea.

2021 Elections

When asked on the party's plans for the upcoming 2021 elections, Muzeyi said there were no nominations or party elections ongoing at the time as they are waiting for clearance from the National Council to start receiving interested candidates.

"We are yet to go from party primaries, to elect a new party president then from there we shall convene our national party organs, the national council and a delegate's conference which will translate how we are going to move on," Muzeyi emphasized.
