Table leaders Alqs opened up a seven-point gap on the standings to remain on course of winning the SMACK league title after they defeated Zimbaz 2-0 at Legends on Sunday.

The victory was a big boost for Alqs after their fellow title contenders Cyclones dropped points following their goalless draw with Elite.  Allan Kattumba and Ronald Salado each had a goal as Alqs picked up a vital win to remain top with 35 points, seven above second-placed Cyclones.

In other matches played at the weekend, Vendors went down to Mafia 2-4 while Windows defeated Pirates 3-2.

The SMACK League initiative was started in 2016 with 12 teams that have now grown to 18 by the old boys of St Mary's College Kisubi. The Old Boys, families and friends come together to network and compete every fortnight for about nine months in a highly formal football league format. The league that is its fourth season will climax in March this year.

On top of the football competition, the members of the league have also added charity work as one of the ways to give back to the community.

At the end of the season, they will be individual awards for the MVP, top scorer, best goalkeeper, smartest team, and fair play awards in the nine-aside tournament.
