Jan 15, 2020

The launch was officiated by H.E. Per Lindgarde Ambassador of Sweden.

Well known for safety, the first automobile, Volvo, a Swedish brand, was the first to introduce seatbelt features. Volvo opened its doors to Uganda with a launch of the Volvo brand and the Volvo XC90 and XC60 series at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala recently.

The launch was officiated by H.E. Per Lindgarde Ambassador of Sweden. Lindgarde said that continuous innovation has made Swedish companies competitive in the Automobile market over the years.

"There has been a steady demand in the products in Uganda backed by steady economic growth and numerous business opportunities", Lindgarde said.

According to Julius Ceasar Kawagga, sales and marketing manager Premium cars Ltd, the authorized dealer of brand new Volvo passenger vehicles in Uganda, the launch of Volvo in Uganda signifies that the brand now has a home where Volvo owners can have easy and quick access to genuine spare parts.

We look at safety first before technology; Kawagga said adding that the Volvo XC90 and XC60 series are designed with the safety of users in mind.

The cars have sensors that detect obstacles, 360-degree camera, side mirror censors and best of all for Ugandans; Kawagga said the cars have 2-litre engines, which is economical fuel wise.

However, on the price of Shs500 million for an XC90 and Shs450m for the XC60 which seemed to scare the launch attendees, Kawagga said it is better to purchase quality products other than spending almost an equal price on the second-hand vehicles around.

"Volvo has been at the forefront of promoting safety and environmentally friendly and efficient transport, providing comfort and value for money for the Ugandan Market", he said.

"The Evolution of Volvo dates back from 1927 in April, with this experience, it is important people get right products with right parts for their automobile instead of getting spare parts that are cross-functional but having a bad effect at the end", Kawagga added.
