Uganda juniors lose in ITF /CAT Eastern African Tennis Junior Championship

The ITF /CAT Eastern African Tennis Junior Championship serves as an evaluation for an eventual selection for potential players to take part in the ITF/CAT African Junior Championships in the U-14 and U-16 that will take place in March and April later this year.

Ugandan tennis players suffered a setback as the ITF /CAT Eastern African Tennis Junior Championship came to an end at Dar-es-Salaam Gymkhana Club in Tanzania on Tuesday.
The Ugandans who had made both the boys' and girls' U-16 finals lost to Burundi and Kenya opponents in both the singles and doubles.
Akram Nsubuga and Godfrey Ocen lost to Burundi's duo of Akbar Gatoto and Mussa Kashindi 6-0, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-1respectively in the singles category to lose 2-0.
The same predicament fell to Winnie Birungi and Shanita Namagembe who lost to Kenya's Angela Okutoyi and Alicia Owegi 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0 respectively in the girls final.
Despite losing the final, Ocen's journey in the competition has been good since he also managed to reach the doubles final in the U-16 category with teammate Trevor Kazibwe although they also lost it.
Troy Zziwa and Allan Otto are other youngsters in the U14 category that have also managed to lift the Ugandan flag in the ten days competition that ended on Tuesday.
