Vipers opened up a four-point gap in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League summit following their slim 1-0 victory over Kyetume in their first game of the second round at St Mary's Stadium in Kitende on Friday.
Paul Mucureezi who joined Vipers from Mbarara City scored on his debut in the ninth minute after receiving a well-placed cross from Tito Okello.
The victory saw Vipers move to 39 points on the league summit, four above defending champions KCCA who are second on the log with 35 points while Kyetume remained 12th on the log with 16 points.

Kyetume who missed most of their key players due to lack of licenses will need to step up their performance in other games of the league if they are to survive relegation.
Patrick Ochan, Vincent Kayizzi, Isaac Kirabira, and goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa are some of the players that didn't make it on the matchday squad due to licensing issues.
Elsewhere, Hamis 'Diego' Kizza scored a brace as Proline beat Maroons 2-1 away in Luzira. Steven Mukwala scored a consolation for Maroons to extend his tally on the scoring chart to 11 goals. In Jinja, Ivan Wani and Boban Zirintuusa each had a goal as Busoga United beat Express 2-0.
