Uganda is to host the Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in 2024.

 
Uganda is to host the Speakers and Presiding Officers Conference of the Commonwealth (CSPOC), in 2024. This decision was arrived at yesterday, at the ongoing CSPOC in Ottawa, Canada. Uganda's Speaker, Rebecca Kadaga, MPs and parliamentary officials are in attendance, according to a statement issued from Parliament this morning.

 
At the Monday forum, issues discussed ranged forum CSPOC meetings; the format of the said gatherings; Standing Committee Rules; and venues for future conferences.

 
It was agreed that the 2021 CSPOC would be held in Guernsey. The latter is an island in the English Channel off the coast of Normandy.

 

In 2022, Australia will be the host. In 2023, the Standing Committee meeting will be held in Trinidad and Tobago.

 
Other issues on the agenda throughout this week will be parliamentary engagement; openness, transparency and accountability; and parliamentarians as effective legislators and representatives. The week-long conference got underway on Monday.
