The tournament saw quite a number of old faces return to the fray like Amos Ndyagumanawe who has no club made it to the semi-final only to lose to Mustapha Bwire who was outfoxed by Mansoor Bwanika.

Bwanika Mansoor and Rashida Mutesi successfully defended their Kampala Open titles to take home sh2m and sh1.7m respectively at D-arena bar and grill Namirembe road over the weekend.

The duo, as usual, had a bag of tricks in their lockers as they laid out a pathway to a title defense in the competition that was sponsored by Empire Casino.

Bwanika fought through a tough quarter-final when he out-maneuvered former national open champion Fahad Ssewankambo with a fearless brand of pool.

He beat Mustafa Bwire 7-4 in the final.

Ssewankambo settled into the match swiftly taking an unprecedented 5-1 lead in the match. He needed only one point to make the semi-finals but as he has done for the last three years Bwanika played like a champion and won all five games 6-5 to head into the quarter-finals.

Rashida too overcame veteran player and serial winner Vicky Namuyanja in fine fashion coming from 4-1 to beat her opponent 6-4.  It was a case of more heartbreak for Vicky as the Kampala Open eluded her for another year.

With 2020 off to a good start all attention and focus will now change to the Pool Association of Uganda Forensic Audit meeting set for this weekend at Nob View Hotel.
