Former Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president George Katumba Wamala passed away mysteriously as he was preparing a thanksgiving party with his family after Christmas.

Wamala, 73, who is known to have led the soccer governing body for 14 days during President Idi Amin's regime in 1977, died on Saturday morning as he was preparing a thanksgiving party next Saturday at his home in Makerere with his family, according to his son Isaac Kamulegeya.

Kamulegeya said Wamala suffered a heart attack and shortly died after as he was being rushed at Case Hospital for treatment.

He will be laid to rest at his ancestral home at Gombe on Semuto Road off Matugga Town main road on Monday afternoon after a funeral service at St Noah Protestant Church in Makerere.

Wamala held a number of administrative roles that included being the general secretary of Uganda Referees Association, FUFA representative of schools, a member of Kampala Football District Association, a member of Uganda National Football League Association representing referees and a member of the Post Primary Football Association among other roles.
